Resolve: Diaries of a Sea Voyage
Zia Ahari is a retired orthopaedic surgeon. After retirement at the age of 63, he set out to realize a boyhood dream and test the resilience of mind and body of a person his age. He undertook a mainly single-handed sailing journey onboard Athesa a 31-foot Hallberg Rassy, “Monsun” sailing boat . The journey took him from Västerås in Sweden to the San Francisco Bay in the US. In this book he describes his experiences while crossing the oceans alone, facing life threatening situations and enduring harrowing experiences. His are not tales of bravado or dare-devilry. It is the story of an old man trying to discover his real self, his fears and his shortcomings. It is the story of an ordinary man who wishes to accomplish something extraordinary by winning over these fears and shortcomings. En route, by challenging the conventional wisdom he presents views that are controversial and sometimes debatable. He tells his story in a witty and self deprecating fashion, making the book a page turner. The book may be ordered from Amazon in the US and from Amazon UK in Europe.
Zia Ahari is a member of Cruising Club of America, and has been elected as Rear Commodore of the San Francisco Station for 2012. He also is member of the Board of Governors of the Cruising Club.
