I thought that Dracula 2000 was a pretty
good movie, so I was pretty eager to see the sequel. I was very
pleased, with the results of it, I personally think it is a better movie.
I like the original plot, the good characters, and all the cool gore
effects. Craig Sheffer plays the wheelchair bound character Lowell.
The character himself isn't very developed, he is just kind of there to
push the story along. Craig's performance is kind of annoying and
uninspired. But as the movie progresses so does his performance,
becoming more convincing and more drive.
Elizabeth (Diane Neal) is a great character, very layered, and has many
different sides to her. Diane plays the character nicely, her key
emotions are strong, and she handles her transitions very well.
The character of Luke (Jason London) is basically just there for comic
relief. Jason does a good job in the role, and hi came across as a
very likeable character. Priest Uffizi (Jason Scott Lee) is an
amazingly inspired character, he knows what he is there for, and will stop
at nothing to do it. Great performance by Lee, in my opinion.
The directing of Patrick Lussier has improved since
Dracula 2000. There are lots of really
cool slow motion scenes, and it is not over done. He also tends to
use some very cool camera tricks, especially during the death scenes.
Another thing that I really enjoyed about his style is his tendency to use
elaborate lighting effects.
So overall, I think that Dracula II: Ascension is a much better film
than it's predecessor. The acting is good, with likeable characters.
Very good directing, and really neat death scenes make this a must see
film in my book. |

We get a ton of goodies, including: a double decapitation, graphic
autopsy, another really cool decapitation, torched body, bath tub of
blood, very graphic bit off face, spear through the neck, and much
more! |
