Review

"What was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply evil"
(Dr. Loomis)

First of all I would like to say that I am not giving this movie a trophy, just because it is a "classic".  This movie earns its score over and over again.  The inspiration that fueled every movie after it, the incredible directing, and the great acting make this movie one of the best.

Donald Pleasence plays Dr. Loomis, he is Myers doctor.  He gives an amazing performance, he has a phenomenal onscreen presence.  The tone of his voice is just creepy.  He is able to maintain focus and still present a nervous quality with his character.  Even though Pleasence did an amazing job, for me Jamie lee Curtis was the movie.  She gives a very sincere performance as Laurie.  She does a great job at setting the mood of the film, has great onscreen emotions and stunning transitions, and she is a unbelievable screamer.  I really can't imagine anybody else in her shoes.

Halloween features some of the the greatest directing in the genre, thanks to John Carpenter of course.  I especially enjoyed how the entire first scene was one continuous shot.  As well as the genius POV shots, especially in the first scene.  The lighting is remarkable, as are the long distance shots.  Carpenter is a genius, and doesn't hold back with his trademark style in Halloween.

There are so many other things to mention about Halloween, and unfortunately I don't have time to comment on them all, so I will pick my favorite things.  I absolutely praise the way that the story gives no real motive as to why Myers kills.  It is so much better that way, just to think that someone or something can be that evil, is spine tingling.  I also love the scene where Myers pins a character to the wall with his knife and then steps back to admire what he has done.  And finally I have to mention the musical score.  It is a brilliant piece of music that only heightens the movie to a new level of fear.

So when it is all said and done, it is impossible to deny that Halloween is a masterpiece in horror.  Without it I would not be here writing horror movie reviews, because the horror genre would not be what it is now.  Halloween is one of the top must see movies for any true horror fan.  It is a force to be reckoned with.
