Review

Special thanks should go out to my recent insomniac activities and AMC's Fear Friday's for bringing me across this movie.  It was actually pretty good.  I had never even heard of it, but since I couldn't sleep and it was just starting, I thought what the hell.

The movie starts out pretty slow, with a man and woman getting married and moving into the husband's castle.  It was pretty boring at first.  But about twenty or so minutes into the movie it starts to get pretty good.  The woman starts to see a severed hand around the castle, and she also sees a man who's eyes appear to have been ripped out.

The acting isn't the best I've ever seen.  It can be overly dramatic at some points, and can be dull at key points in the movie as well.  The best performance in the movie for me was that of Peter Cushing, who played the offbeat Dr. Pope.  For some reason I just really enjoyed his performance.

The directing is rather dull, mainly because Roy Baker directs the movie very straight forward.  It feels like he is afraid to do anything fancy.  Which kind of bugged me because there is a lot that could have been done here to improve the films overall appearance.

Overall, with a creative story, which is kind of like Rosemary's Baby, and some decent acting, especially on the part of Peter Cushing, I think it is a pretty good movie.  But if you are in the mood for something fast pace, you better look else ware.

Gore

We get a chopped of hand that wanders around.  And a guy with shot out eyes.
