Review

"Give me some sugar baby."

I am a huge fan of the Evil Dead series, the first being my favorite.  But this movie was not what I expected for the third and final installment.  It literally starts of where Evil Dead 2 ended.  With our cowardly main character Ash being sucked into a time portal into the dark ages.

My main problem with Army of Darkness is that it doesn't seem like a horror movie.  It looks like one, but there is nothing that would really be considered scary about it. Unless you are a small child that is.  It is more of an action comedy than anything else.  In fact it is more of a comedy than Evil Dead 2 was.  Even though the story still revolves around deadites and the book of the dead, it just seems to have something missing from it.

Bruce Campbell returns for the roll of Ash, and he is the same old Ash that he was in the first two movies.  It seems as though he was put on this earth to play that role, he is perfect.  I would even go so far as to say that he is a comedic genius.

Sam Raimi's directing is dead on, just like in the previous two installments of the trilogy.  He knows how to work with the actors, especially Bruce.  He also knows how to have the actors use their surroundings to heighten their performance.

In the end, Army of Darkness is a good movie, and it is a great finale to the series.  But to me it just seems like something is missing.  Either way it is a must see film for all horror fans.

Gore

A cut off hand, and some skeletons, that is about it.
