Having heard great things about this movie I thought I would just go out
and buy it. I wasn't sure what to expect from it, since I had just heard
of it, and I didn't even do any research on it. So when I finally got
around to watching it, I was amazed and surprised to say the least. I will
start off by saying that this is a horror flick that the females will be
able to relate to. I say this because pretty much the whole movie is an
affect of what happened at that time of the month. It could actually be
shortened into a tampon commercial if done correctly.
The
movie starts out grimly, the main charters Ginger and Bridgett, talking
about death and suicide. I was thinking this movie might be pretty good.
Then come the opening credits, which in my opinion are the coolest opening
credits in a movie ever. As the movie pushed forward, I was really
getting into it and the dark subject matter. Then comes all this talk
about the menstrual cycle, which left me feeling kind of aquard. I really
didn't quit know what to expect next so I kept watching.
About
half way through the movie I suddenly realized that this movie actually
has a type of social commentary to it. I realized that these charters
were learning how to cope, especially Bridget, who was learning the
reality of friendship and sisterhood. And by the time that the movie was
over it really had me thinking about what love and friendship really is.
I didn't feel like I had just watched a horror movie, and I was egger to
watch it again.
In
the role of Ginger we have Kathrine Issabel, who is stunning not only to
the eyes as a beautiful person, but an amazing young actress, she was able
to change moods great. Emily Perkins played the role of Ginger's younger
sister Bridget. Emily was the movie for me, she is an extremely dramatic
actress, who knows how to give the people a great performance. Another
role worth mentioning is that of Mimi Rodgers, who plays the duo's quirky
mother. For some reason, she is brought to light as a strange women, and
I'm not sure if this was on purpose or not, but it does provide some
needed humor in the movie.
As
for the directing all I have to say is that I praise it, the transitions
are great and the opening credits sequence is amazing, I love it. So for
me it all boils down to the fact that this is flat out a damn good movie.
I loved the small plot twists, and the subtle dark humor brought on by
Mimi Rodgers. But for me the best thing about Ginger Snaps is its attempt
to be a non cliché horror movie, which is getting rare nowadays. |
