Review

Now I have never read the Stephen King novella that this was based on.  But I did read Dream catcher, before I saw that Stephen King adaptation.  So I wasn't expecting much from Secret Window.

I was not overly pleased with the end result, because first of all:  It is a big budget adaptation and the Company that is releasing it  demanded a PG-13 rating.  So that cuts out tons of violence and gore, cursing, and the occasional nude scene.  By making it PG-13, they killed a movie that probably could have been decent at best.  But instead they made it PG-13 so that more people can get in and see it, thus making them more money in the process.

Now that I have said that, I will say this.  I have never been a very big Depp fan.  I will admit that he was amazing in Pirates.  But other than that I have never really been overly impressed with his movies.  But I actually liked him in this one.  He played his role very good.  Especially in the scenes where he is supposed to be afraid and cowardly, I liked that his ego isn't as big as his bank statement. (people who talk in metaphors should shampoo my crotch.)

Other than a good performance by Depp the rest of the movie is very mediocre. The first thirty minutes of the movie is quite uneventful, and the ending feels rushed.  But that is just my opinion.

Gore

A stabbed dog.  A screwdriver in the head and axing.  None of which are very bloody, because of the PG-13 rating.
