My Tribute To Crappy Slasher Movie Cover Art |
|||||||||||||||||||||
|
I have been running this site for four months now, and along way I have
noticed something. That something is that slasher movies have some of
the worst and most unoriginal cover art in the history of cinema. The
classic modern slasher movie cover art usually consists of a group of good
looking people in their twenties, standing in the shape of a "v", with the
main character in the front, as the "point" a lot of times this is
the person who survives. Another common attribute that I have noticed over
my past four months of reviewing these movies is that a lot of them have
quotes from reviewers on the cover, stuff like "sexy, and hip". Or
they will have the main characters with their faces inside the silhouette of
the killers weapons. There are so many characteristics of these movie
covers, but they all just seem to be the same. So what I have done is
compiled a collection of slasher movie covers that display these patterns,
so that you can see for your self. I have also made some diagrams out of a
couple of these covers to show the different characteristics of the covers.

The Faculty displays the cover art favorite of the "v" formation of the main characters, as well as the review quotes. |
Halloween Ressurection, also displays the movie quotes, but this cover uses the characters faces in the weapon technique instead of the "v" formation. |

This was an original article that I have written myself, I in no way intend it to be a slap in the face of a genre that I absolutly love, it is provided for entertainment purposes only, and all cover art is the sole property of their respected owners. July 2004. |
