REPRODUCTION RATIONS

WW2 US Army Ration Type D:

Good news! Edible D Rations are back!

These rations are based on one that was removed from a carton dated September 1942. Three bars were actually considered a full days ration. They were intended as an emergency ration when no other subsistence was available.

We offer the bar in chocolate or a non-edible, non-perishable filler. Both are wrapped per the Quartermaster specification in place at that time and dipped in a thermoplastic compound (wax) to seal and protect the bar. The chocolate bar is made from a combination of chocolate and flour based on the Quartermaster's recipe. We recommend the non-edible bar if you will be using our reproduction strictly for display. With the non-edible bar, you don't have to worry about it melting under the sun or feasting insects.

WW2 US Army Air Forces D Ration:

US Army Air Forces survival version of the D Ration. This was packaged three bars to a box. The package was then inserted into the B-1 and B-2 survival kits stored under seats etc. These bars fit exactly, a snug fit into the cutout. I personally know of only one of these and don't have any pictures of an original. References to this ration may be found in several official publications.

WW2 US Marine Corps D Ration:

Secondly, is the US Marine Corps version of the D Ration.

Shown here is a picture of an original bar that is part of an individual collection. This bar was used to create our reproductions which is shown in the picture on the right. Differences between the Army ration and USMC ration are slight and appear to only exist in labeling. Obviously, the Army and USMC rations are marked to their respective branches. Otherwise, the only difference is the font. However, I can guarantee that the USMC bar is a real item and does exist. Based on labeling regulations of the Army, I would guess this ration to be of the 1942-1943 time period. This is the only one of these that I am aware of and have never seen any references to this bar.

WW2 US Army C Ration:

We have chosen to start with cans that are based on the Quartermaster specification in place during 1942. See our historical information for more detail.

The cans are 12 oz in size with gold lacquer. The labels are side mounted on both the M (Meat) unit and B (Bread) unit. A key is soldered to the bottom of the B unit can just like the original, but the cans do not have the opening strip. However, the only way you will know the difference is to look really hard. Six cans constituted a full days ration. This included M-1, Meat & Beans, M-2, Meat & Vegetable Stew, M-3, Meat & Vegetable Hash, and three B units. The B units contained biscuits, coffee, sugar and a couple other items.

For simplicity's sake, we offer the C Ration cans with a non-edible, non-perishable filler that approximates the weight of the original meals. There is nothing like having authentic looking and weighted cans for the haversack display.
