1963 Split Window Coupe
NO LONGER AVAILABLE
Original 327/300hp Automatic. Body on restored over the last 2 years. Approximately 3000 miles driven since purchase in December of 2007 when 67,217 original miles. All mechanicals are in good working order. Many new parts or restored original parts. Recent new carpeting, glove box door, restored instrument cluster and many interior areas restored. Both original seats are in very nice condition. Dash tops in very nice condition replaced by prior owner. Detailed engine bay. Many items restored and refinished to correct original appearance and functionality. Very nice frame with much of its original coating intact. Older lacquer repaint has flaws which I decided to leave untouched. All fasteners throughout are either original or correct reproductions. All original parts that were replaced are saved and will be included with the sale, including the original AM Wonderbar and its reproduction speaker. A 60 amp alternator is included for summer A/C use, needing higher current loading. Correctly dated 37 amp is presently on the car. Cold A/C. A electric fan is mounted forward of the condenser for extra cooling.
Engine temperature typically runs around 180-190 degrees with the A/C running in Florida summertime. Engine oil pressure runs around 50 psi when hot. Restored instrument cluster is fully functional with all gauges operational. Quartz clock keeps accurate time.
There appears to be some prior body work to the side of the left front fender. Original panel but evidence of repair. In all my exploring of the car, that's the only area that appears to have had any change. Must have been long ago. I've been all over & under it. The rest of the body appears original faded lightly colored fiberglass. The paint is a very old lacquer repaint. Just after we got the car, according to the NCRS judges a few years ago at the Regionals here in Florida, they said some of the paint is original & they estimate some repainted areas very long ago as it appeared to them to be nitrocellulose based and the metallic is very fine.
The birdcage under the dash and around the windshield still shows much original green zinc phosphate paint. When I replaced the rockers I also saw clean birdcage rails with much green still there. When I restored the instrument cluster and pulled the glovebox area apart for cleanup there was green painted birdcage everywhere. No rust. There was a bit of rust at the body/door pillar above where the latch is on the left side. This is where the steel meets the fiberglass. It was cleaned up and repainted to protect it further on.
The frame is very nice, with most of the asphalt coating still on it. There was some rust in the left rear end plate just ahead of the rear wheel, which was properly replaced recently and the area re-coated. The kickups have some surface rust in the enclosed areas, but no heavy rust of any kind. From there back it is still black coating with a little surface rust in some areas.
Everything works properly on this car as I am meticulous about functionality. All copies of previous work will be included. Also included are many parts purchased as spares or were extras from the restoration.
This Classic '63 Corvette Split Window Coupe is a pleasure to drive and attracts attention whenever it's on the road.
